Most of the good that has come about has been an unintended byproduct of actions to increase their own power and deliver their own message. They being the institution in this sense.
And as for World War 2, individuals may have committed great acts, but the institution did not.
But here and now they already have power in Africa for example, and they could use it for some good, but they probably wont, because they are only interested in increasing their hold, and their power.

It defies plausibility to assert a two millennia old international organization has NEVER done anything positive except ac/incidentally. Dismissing the staggering quality and quantity of its beneficial accomplishments as the work of individuals rather than the organization is just evasion; the church to which they dedicated their lives and made sacred vows deeply inspired the behavior of all those individuals. When Catholic priests, nuns and laity perform acts of charity and service the church requires of them, much of their motivation is honoring that requirement. It is thus absurd to deny the church any role in that. We cannot call Boys Town solely Father Flanagans work, to the exclusion of the Roman Catholic Church (who funded it,) because he and the church are impossible to segregate from each other.

A priest can't marry, but a married person can become a priest.
