Especially,lack of coffee would be the deal-breaker me. That, and no pubs

Distance to Mars from Earth is up to 20-light minutes away. That makes real-time conversations and remote-control with people back on Earth out of the question. So the colonists are really on their own.

I think most people would find Mars exciting for 2 weeks, OK for a few months, but after that, they'd be begging to go home.
