You never know! Aemon Send a noteboard - 26/04/2013 09:31:34 PM

Astronauts have coffee and tea regularly on the ISS. Too, beverages are mostly water, so as long as you don't mind instant dissolvable stuff, coffee and beer wouldn't present much of a weight problem. They're also made from plants, so, depending on what sort of grow-house they're planning to set up, you might have all of the coffee/beer you could want.

I agree with your assessment, though. I don't think most people (including myself) could be happy living on Mars. The fact that we're even giving semi-serious consideration to the problem, though, is an indication that we're living in a pretty awesome time period.

If you could, would you move permanently to Mars? - 24/04/2013 03:30:55 AM 1455 Views
You want to go where? *NM* - 24/04/2013 06:29:07 AM 411 Views

I think it's incredible that such a thing is even being attempted - 24/04/2013 08:13:16 AM 880 Views
I know. It really perplexes me that so many people are so down on it. - 24/04/2013 07:19:42 PM 827 Views
I am not gonna lie - 24/04/2013 08:24:57 AM 821 Views
No, and definitely not with this group - 24/04/2013 10:26:03 AM 898 Views
What's the problem, technically? - 24/04/2013 07:24:22 PM 798 Views
Basically? Mass and redundancy - 24/04/2013 10:40:30 PM 709 Views
The mass is what I wondered about. - 24/04/2013 11:03:36 PM 747 Views
Fuel costs are linear to mass, total costs are probably less - 25/04/2013 12:20:55 AM 702 Views
To put this in perspective, adding to Issac's points - 25/04/2013 01:50:38 AM 767 Views
That's not really a fair comparison. - 25/04/2013 08:18:35 PM 714 Views

I agree with your points, but you've still only listed financial (not technical) problems. - 25/04/2013 08:22:25 PM 729 Views
Finacial problems are technical problems - 25/04/2013 10:19:17 PM 726 Views
Maybe we just have different definitions. - 26/04/2013 09:25:33 PM 768 Views

So, suppose someone put you in charge. - 27/04/2013 02:14:44 AM 749 Views
Well that would be a bad idea, but... - 27/04/2013 03:29:47 PM 856 Views

Anyone who would seriously consider that is desperate and/or depressed (or an astronaut). - 24/04/2013 03:00:54 PM 717 Views
I'm not depressed or desperate. Does that make me an astronaut? - 24/04/2013 07:11:14 PM 853 Views
Colonizing Mars sounds exciting but the romance would soon wear off.... - 25/04/2013 07:34:25 AM 817 Views
You're basically right, but they are planning for those contingencies to some extent. - 25/04/2013 08:43:22 PM 927 Views
OK for the medical, but still, supplies of beer and coffee would surely be limited - 26/04/2013 05:55:38 AM 744 Views

I wouldn't go like that. - 24/04/2013 05:15:09 PM 767 Views
No, but I wouldn't mind sending a few people there - 25/04/2013 01:52:56 AM 776 Views
Not with that. - 25/04/2013 07:32:40 PM 712 Views
