I have repeatedly said that *IF* he was guilty of what he was accused of then he got off too lightly.

Having skepticism over a case screwed up by the legal system isn't 'defending some scumbag' it's having skepticism.

EVERY accused is a 'scumbag' to many people. Of course then they sit there with egg on their faces when it turns out someone else did it. The Norfolk 4 were 'scumbags' for raping and murdering a nice young newlywed. Too bad that they, in fact, didn't have a damn thing to do with it.

It's not a defense of the man. He may be really guilty. He may not be. We'll likely never know.

What it is, is taking the stance that the justice system must be held to a very high standard and to not judge those who are 'accused' and label them as 'scumbags'. The accusation would indicate that, yes. But not all accusations are true and sometimes not all scumbags really are.

Is that the case here? I don't know. AND NEITHER DO YOU. You weren't standing there 30 odd years ago in the room with a videocamera. All we have is a very minimal plea with little detail and some very sensationalist reporting.
