um, that's actually EXACTLY how natural selection works, thanks for arguing my point so nicely moondog Send a noteboard - 10/06/2015 12:19:32 AM

witness a species of swallow found in nebraska which has been shown to have a shorter wingspan, thus allowing it to dodge cars more effectively over the course of 30 years. shorter-winged birds managed to survive and breed, and now they don't get splattered by cars nearly as often as they used to. if that isn't rock solid proof that evolutionary theory is perfectly sound and valid, then i don't know what is....

I broke my usual rule of not clicking a moondog link, since they never ever claim support his point, and looked at the article. This is people who want to believe in evolution simply claiming, absent proof, that their god has intervened to save the birds. In fact, it's OUR God who pays attention to their deaths. He said so.

Birds have not changed. The preexisting characteristics of a species has altered in proportion. If snipers started shooting everyone over six feet tall, the proportion of humans under six feet tall in that area would increase. It would not change the characteristics of human biology or, even if all the tall people were eradicated from the breeding pool, and their genes combed out through successive generations, that humans had changed species. People have managed to INTELLIGENTLY DESIGN varieties of dog from Chihuahua to Great Dane, but they are all canis lupus familiaris. Your evolved swallows are still swallows, and when removed from the environment that selects for short wings, their proportions will go right back to normal.

If YOU were familiar with Charles Darwin's work, you would note that this is essentially the exact same phenomenon he observed with the Galapagos finches. Subsequent studies revealed that their beaks revert back to the normal range in different climates. This is not remotely evidence of speciation. It would be an interesting phenomenon to study on its own merit, but not as the basis for a work called "Origin of Species."

yeah that's actually how the process works. since you understand it so well are you just arguing with me because it's me and you are 100% against what i say even when i'm right, or because you think you're actually in disagreement with the principle? if you're in disagreement so much that i'm an idiot for presenting a case exactly as the process you've described, then you are also an idiot for believing that natural selection chooses the birds that are better at surviving the dive out of an overpass without getting hit by cars. and if those birds move to some other place, their bodies will change to be more adapted to the other environment. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THE ARTICLE SUGGESTS, AND EVOLUTIONARY THEORY SUPPORTS IS HAPPENING! so either you agree that evolution works as presented, or you don't agree even though you do. should i re-submit it under a different login so that you can read it without automatically filing it under "must disagree because moondog wrote it"?
