Mental disorders are treated according to the guidelines stipulated by the APA.

The APA approved treatment for gender dysphoria is for the individual to receive medical transitional care under the supervision of a mental health provider with experience dealing with gender identity issues.


And wasn't it that same book by which we lobotomized people not too long ago for any number of conditions?
