I don't think the comparison to the Australian Sheik is relevant.

I guess that asshole imam from Asutralia isnt the only asshole with these kinds of opinions out there.
I'm not sure the comparison is an accurate one. Mainly because the person who delivered this pamphlet seemed to be almost a "nobody", Sheikh Taj El-Din Hamid Hilaly (the "asshole" ) was the head sheik of the Lakemba mosque which is one of the largest mosques in Australia, an Islamic Sunni leader and was appointed mufti of Australia by the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils.
His exact quote was:
If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the garden or in the park, or in the backyard without a cover, and the cats come and eat it ... whose fault is it, the cats' or the uncovered meat? The uncovered meat is the problem. If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab, no problem would have occurred."
While I agree that such opinions are abhorrent, comparing this to the story goes a bit too far IMO, as the Sheik was probably the most influential muslim in Australia at that time, so his words carried substantially more weight. After all, I'm sure more people would listen to a priest, reverent, imam, rabbi etc. than pay attention to some pamphlet a stranger gave them.
