There are 18 incumbent Dem Senate seats; 41+18<67. Joel Send a noteboard - 29/03/2010 11:15:29 AM
By a good margin. Setting aside the political difficulty of trying to argue for a larger donut hole or reduced coverage (since Republicans are consistently better at framing debates than Dems, hence the difficulty passing a healthcare people most people voted for in '08 ) they don't have the votes to override the inevitable veto. The House arithmetic is no better: There are 253 Dems, 178 Republicans and 4 vacancies, so reaching the magical 290 vote override number on a partyline vote would require Republicans to win 112 seats this November, 108 of which are held by Democrats. Sure, some blue dogs and other conservative Dems will defect, but suggesting THAT many will is absurd.

So, the real question is: If Republicans are running in November on "vote for me and we'll repeal this bill111" aren't they pretty much lying to voters faces? It says awful things about this countrys citizens that it will probably work anyway (in the sense of their goal of getting elected, not repealing the bill, which is laughable. )
