I think we're more willing to give the Iron Man suit the benefit of the doubt regarding inertial dampeners than we are an old refrigerator.

Captain America is goofy in general with regard to his powers. Isn't his shtick that he's at peak physical potential for a human? Humans are great, don't get me wrong, but they aren't THAT great.
