I don't think trigger warnings "ensure that the event defines their life" any more than I think epilepsy warnings ensure that someone's epilepsy defines their life, or glasses ensure that someone's nearsightedness defines their life. It's just a tool people with certain needs can use.
Unlike an epilepsy warning (which is utilized in very specialized circumstances and indicates method and not substance) or glasses (which correct a physical issue), a trigger warning's sole purpose is to warn someone that something may possibly hurt their feelings.
I know that you are coming from a place of compassion for those afflicted, and that is commendable. However, there is such a thing as teaching an individual how to cope with life, because life will not bow down to cater to their fragile state.
