Yeah, there's been debate over the et ne inducas nos before, if I recall, in terms of clarifying for some that it's subjunctive and not indicative wish for the pastor to guide the errant sheep, not for the pastor to avoid leading said sheep.

If only English had better preserved the subjunctive/optative moods, maybe the Pope and those translating his words wouldn't risk speaking heresy in the name of clarification.
