But not books right? Roland00 Send a noteboard - 22/10/2021 05:23:01 PM

It’s such bullshit. As if the executive producers of these shows are donating all their profits to charity. They aren’t. It’s much like that colossal hypocrite John Lennon, with a net worth of approximately 200 million in the 1960s, singing imagine no possessions. When people I know express their admiration for that song, I almost invariably say, “what’s really cool is that he donated every dime he made from royalties to charities addressing income inequality.”

Really?

No. I’m lying and he didn’t.

I refuse to watch Squid Game. I also declined to watch Parasite. Not a bit interested.

So I don’t bother with Billions, nor HBO’s Succession. Not interested in billionaires producing shows attacking the system that made them so rich. H.L. Mencken once said something like no one ever went broke by underestimating the intelligence of the American public. Still true.

How many books challenged the evils of capitalism, the romantic, the gothic, the golden age of sci fi, what else there are so many genres

(keeps another thought secret to continue the teasing)

The show "Billions" has me thinking that our society's divisions are irreparable. - 21/10/2021 10:58:29 PM 422 Views
I am sick to death of movies and TV shows that are allegories on the evils of capitalism. - 22/10/2021 04:49:05 AM 152 Views

I think your society's divisions are irreparable, too, and it's pretty freaking scary. - 22/10/2021 09:55:47 AM 179 Views

That seems like a pretty extreme parallel, but sure, I guess? - 23/10/2021 09:41:23 PM 132 Views

I hope Europe can be that future. - 24/10/2021 02:53:53 PM 167 Views
I hope so too... but I'm not necessarily holding my breath. - 25/10/2021 06:41:33 PM 135 Views
