Everything about the Na'vi warrior's culture is about proving yourself, going one-on-one with the world and everything in it that's trying to kill you.

And the rabbit-puma metaphor doesn't work- rabbits don't have a ritualistic tribal culture that involves subduing pumas and using them as telepathic mounts.


Any hotshot warrior who wanted to prove himself would take a shot at those dragon things, and the fact that they're so skilled with the aerial mounts they ALREADY use shows that it's not that difficult to capture one.
