Actually, the real problem with same-sex marriage is forcing other people to recognize it. THAT is a trespass against one's person & property rights (i.e. forcing an employer to extend remuneration to a party because of a relationship that violates the employer's beliefs, etc). Marriage only has legal privileges and protections because of a long history of practice within society and near-universal acknowledgement of the institution and its meaning. The laws about marriage came about in recognition of the reality. There is no such history or grounding for same sex marriage, but laws for it will not simply codify traditional practices, they will force people to recognize and support a practice that is new and alien to them. The inability of brainless Christians to properly articulate this principle does not invalidate it.
