It's a hole, which reaches to the DO, basically like Gateway, though every place in the world is physically as far away from the Bore than the other (as said, an AoL scientist could probably explain why).

The idea that the Bore is some global weakness in the Pattern is utter nonsense and refuted by what RJ wrote several times and what common sense should tell.
