Graendal survived to provide us with a small surprise in this book. She revealed herself as Asmodean's killer. She interacted with Moridin and revealed things about the other Forsaken. She's also alive and well for the Last Battle. That's plenty...
All of which could have been done without her frankly pathetic escape. Except for her last minute conversion to the light that is no doubt on the way.
I don't understand why people are upset about Graendal. She had a lot of scenes in ToM that were entertaining. What was so cool about Semirhage or Rahvin that made their storylines superior? If it's all about fighting, we've seen Graendal fight in three scenes, including this book where she killed Aran'gar.
I'm not upset about Graendal. I'm upset that all "fight Scenes" have been reduced to one person having some sort of trick that was never thought of before to escape a problem.
A good example of this is Mesannas escape from the oath rod. The three methods put forward are outright stupid tricks.
I would put forward that it is not disimilar to the Harry Potter series in which the mechanics of what is and is not possible through channeling can now be bent to suit the needs of the story.
