yeah, isn't that how the "deathgates" work? Shadow spawn can't survive being touched by the O.P. So when they pass through a gateway it kills them. Tollocs check in but they don't check out.
well, IIRC the deathgates mostly work on the principle that the gateway edges are extremely sharp, and that's the reason they open and close and they have not a round shape: that way, no one would survive a deathgate. The fact that shadowspawn can't pass through them is just a "plus".
The aim of the deathgate to kill a trolloc is to pass it through the gateway thus killing it in the process... I imagine if a channeler wanted an extremely sharp edge to slice trollocs they can use focused air or anything else. Gateways for that purpose are not cost effective.
An annoying gateway error.

Why would them not being able to survive a gateway be a problem?

They prepared a place, and it just happened to be within walking distance of the attack?

Not realty. Caemlyn is huge by the standards of the time but realistically it's tiny

The sizes I proposed are not huge (well, they would be by standards in the middle ages but not now)

I believe Caemlyn is less than 300k people .... That's what .05% the size of London?

That would be an error if it hadn't been Skimming (the platform and what not) they were using.
