I stand corrected. Though I will say that the uses in the books don't match the definition. Chas Send a noteboard - 28/12/2010 02:17:43 PM
Skimming
The ability to open a gateway to a dark dimension (not well defined or understood), move through that dimension, and open another gateway back into the real world in a different location. First mention is TFoH,Ch6. Anyone of sufficient strength and knowledge can Skim. Skimming requires detailed knowledge of the place one is Skimming to. Skimming was not even known as a lost Talent. (ACoS,Ch9)
-Encyclopaedia Wot - Talents

What Egwene had pried from Moghedien was a way to journey from a place you did not know well to one you did. Slower than Traveling, Skimming was not even one of the lost Telents...
-A Crown of Swords - Ch9, p186

There would be more in The Fires of Heaven when Asmo was explaining things to Rand.

e.g. Rand certainly didn't know the Caemlyn Palace courtyard enough to qualify as 'detailed knowledge' and Egwene couldn't have known the place outside Ebou Dar that she Skimmed Lan to (I don't believe that it was the same place as when she made the gateway to ED for Elayne and co.).

Yes, RJ confirmed that Shadowspawn can't survive gateways. *NM* - 24/12/2010 07:39:02 PM 405 Views

Read the post I responded too. I know that. - 26/12/2010 11:58:40 AM 867 Views

They prepared a place, and it just happened to be within walking distance of the attack? - 25/12/2010 09:44:34 AM 800 Views

Perhaps, but I don't think so. - 01/01/2011 01:19:12 AM 655 Views
That would be an error if it hadn't been Skimming (the platform and what not) they were using. - 25/12/2010 02:29:39 AM 745 Views
It is an error because they opened a skimming gateway to the house (from the skimming place) - 25/12/2010 09:47:08 AM 743 Views
