I don't necessarily believe this either. However, there is precedent in Shara and the Aiel Waste, and presumably also the Isle of Madmen. If Ajimbura is typical of a rural Seanchan commoner, then the conquerors may be right.

How do you even know Shara is barbaric? And the Aiel are only "barbaric" because they're different from the people in the Wetlands.

Their initial justification is through military might and the threat of force.

Might is right isn't a justification.

However, their hostile takeover is being legitimized through popular support, which they are gaining rapidly. The vast majority of people in the conquered countries (those not counted among the ranks of channelers, high nobility in some cases, and other dissidents) seem to prefer the peace and stability of the Seanchan regime.

So, except for those who oppose them, nobody opposes them? Shocking!

Yes. That is a flaw of Seanchan governance. - 28/01/2011 01:54:00 AM 1014 Views
It's not the Empire's fault, and that flaw is not being duplicated in the wetlands - 28/01/2011 11:24:00 PM 1309 Views
