I does not look like Nynaeve and Moiraine
Skeeve the Great Send a noteboard - 03/05/2012 11:39:01 PM
This is the cover done by Michael Whelan. You can see the front cover at the start of the post linked to here, and if you scroll down through that post you'll find Whelan talking about his process and showing you concept sketches, then at the bottom you can find the full wrap-around version.
POTENTIAL SPOILER!
The cover depicts something we all know is going to happen, but not what results from it. It shows Rand, carrying Callandor, entering what appears to be the Pit of Doom. Am I remembering that name right? A cave in Shayol Ghul anyway. With him on the back end of the cover are Moiraine and Nynaeve, who will apparently be the ones to help him with Callandor, the two Rand trusts enough to control that situation. One is Moiraine for sure, I can only assume the other is Nynaeve.
I like it. It looks good. Rand's method of holding the sword on the front is a little odd, but I guess we have to remember that it's not a sword for cutting, it's just a sa'angreal shaped like a sword, so it doesn't really matter how he holds it. Rand himself looks very good though.
What are your thoughts?

Although the one in blue dress looks like maybe Moiraine, the one in yellowish dress does not look like Nynaeve. For one, Nynaeve is not blonde. For second, where is the damn braid?! EDIT: forgot she cut it... Did she die her hair blonde too?
