I'm half way through tGS and something popped into my mind.....what is the point of the Aes Sedai? Are they comic relief? Are they just filler?
They are more than any one thing. There isn't much in this series I would call "filler".
Have the Aes Sedai contributed anything major to the storyline? Have they discovered any knowledge about the Last Battle to help Rand? Have they helped with any of the conflicts among nations/factions to help bring order to Randland prior to the Last Battle? Have they even captured or killed a Forsaken? They just keep fighting among themselves.....what's the point!
And what exactly do you think the storyline is?
The Aes Sedai don't usually do anything as a whole. Individual groups of Aes Sedai have helped Rand with various things you listed above, but Rand has had no use for 100 channelers who can't use the Power as a weapon.
In fact, the Aes Sedai have been major antagonists in the series! Maybe you should be asking what they have done to hurt Rand (quite a lot).
Thoughts?
You are asking the wrong question.
