Was she the only one who saw that al'Thor was the real threat? Why not just kill him and be done with it? The most obvious answer to that question - that none of them so far had proven strong enough to defeat him - was one she did not enjoy contemplating.

This suggests to me that she hasn't personally tried to kill him, but she's thinking once again about the failures of others. She's done this before, when she was worried about her own fate considering Rahvin and Ishamael had died at Rand's hands.
