Why did RJ show us that Fain captured and broke this Myrddraal in TSR, followed by some arrangement between them, and finally let Faim take the Myrddraal to Caemlyn in LoC?
Is the reason that RJ just wanted to point out that Fain can control a Myrddraal (which are anyway "cannon fodder" in your words)? Or might it be a little detail, which is largely overlooked, but might become important in ToM and/or AMoL? (the books will apparently feature Fain and Slayer, according to BS)

I think obviously that relationship will come into play in the end, but I don't think the Fade will be that important, its role was to show us another aspect of the Mordeth / DO polarity.

To show the relationship between Fain and DO
