Fain HATES his "gift" it's the main reason he wants Rand dead!
Fain probably hates the burning desire to kill Rand. But since it is there, he is certainly lucky that he can track Rand.
Fain's ability to sense/track Rand (and the others) is what began the process of driving him insane! His burning desire to kill him is in hopes that his death will get Rands presence out of his mind!
