you misunderstand. Lanfear was known to "hide her true power" ... we know that a woman can hide part of her strength. We know that Lanfear was tricky. The theory here (Linda at 13th Dep I think put it out there) is that Lanfear may have pulled off a great ruse. She let women think she was hiding part of her true strength with such a weave but used an angreal to pull more Power than her potential allowed, with the point of women thinking she was actually stronger than she really was ... it's a total long shot IMO, but it's an explanation of Lanfear v. Cyndane strength.

It is an explanation but it's based on very tenuous facts. Lanfear was 'known' to hide her strength based on one quote early on by Moiraine, and even Moiraine suggested that it was nothing more than rumour.

Can you imagine how long Lanfear would have had to go through life with this weave on herself, hiding her ability? It strains credibility just from a practical perspective. It seems like Mesaana is quite sure of Lanfear's measured strength. I doubt many women have seen Lanfear channel her full potential and based their estimation on that. Even some of the Black Ajah say that they've measured Lanfear's strength, and it was very high.

Cyndane also directly says that Alivia is stronger than her before the Finns held her, which implies that she has truly lost strength since then.
