That first sequence, where he falls down to the Station? It's simultaneously the most human and alien thing - he's so wrapped up in the cage of his technological symbiosis. He personifies his suit, and gathers emotional data from the organisation or lack thereof of the things around him.

I'm trying, very badly, to say that Kelvin himself is constructed to be the kind of guy whose primary mode of accessing the world is visual. So he notes the clouds and mimoids, he notes the space around him - what he doesn't pay attention to is his own body - I don't think I've seen a character spend so much time in mundane pain who doesn't just give in and take a nap.

Ergo. Clouds. Unavoidable.
