You are probably right. And Cedric is a son to be more proud of than Dudley, no question. There was something in the phrasing and the way be did it, however, that triggered the comparison. I cannot remember now what it was. Maybe the obvliviousness to the appropriateness of what he was saying in front of other people? I don't know.
And who you say it to in this case.
The problem here, and why Amos seemed so annoying about it, was that he was lording it over Harry in front of everyone else, making both Cedric and Harry feel uncomfortable. Also, he didn't pick up on the queues from Cedric that he was crossing lines, implying the win was entirely based on Cedric's vastly superior skills. I understand pride in your children, but at the expense of other kids (while they're right in front of you no less) is annoying. I think the line "the better man won" was used too in reference to his son beating THE Harry Potter. The superiority angle was remenicent of the Dursleys, but I think it was more Amos just sticking his foot in his mouth.
