How much does Umbridge know?
Enough?
I seem to recall her having a spy in the pub? Draco?
I cannot help appreciate the irony of Hermione and Ron and the rest forcing themselves to say and hear "Voldemort", as a method of standing up to him and the fear he generates, when that is what brings them so much trouble later on. If they had just kept to the the wizarding standard of "you-know-who", they'd have had an easier time of it in the forest.
Harry's fears that Sirius will throw "caution to the winds" is clearly something which troubles him a lot, setting him up for Voldemort's exploiting that fear.
Dumbledore's brother is introduced. The goats are there, but not much else. I like how he is apparently unimportant at this stage.
Thestrals' names are given, but not yet connected to the creatures.
And the Room of Requirement is presented in all its glory.
The attack on Hedwig is very sinister. And for some reason, when Hermione suggests Umbridge may have done it, I have this horrible vision of a flying Umbridge going after Hedwig in a horror-film predatory way. It is not something I imagine "actually" happened in the book, it is just a very startling mental image.
Why was Voldemort happy when Umbridge touched Harry? And why is he angry now?
Also, the hose-elves find it insulting that Hermione is leaving clothes out for them. It is therefore not about her power to release them, but about her desire to do so.
