Is he a lazy, pompous guy who essentially teased his fans for five years by posting stupid blogs about everything under the sun, about getting fatter while watching endless football games, about traveling around the world to go to geek conventions and about all the casting steps and missteps, rather than write the damn book he promised fans was nearly done four years ago? YES.
Do people have a right to be pissed off for having invested time in a series based on the expectations he created about how soon he'd be done? YES.
Are you going to find lots of people ready to bitch about it now that they can pre-order the book that comes out on July 12? NO. Results speak for themselves. If A Dance With Dragons is a bad book, or even just as mediocre as A Feast For Crows, then I think you'll see a lot of fan disappointment and actual, palpable anger directed at the man who was stringing them along on the theory that "I want to release a REALLY GOOD book, rather than give you crap but have a book out within a year like Robert Jordan used to do" (I'm thinking books 7-11 of the Wheel of Time).
If A Dance With Dragons turns out to be stellar, then people will say, "Okay, maybe it was worth waiting for." At this point, though, people are suspending judgment.

Political correctness is the pettiest form of casuistry.
