Remember she also had her faced chewed off via Bitter (Bitter was one of the captives of Yoren that came from the black cells, he sharpened his teeth to points, he became one of the Brave Companions and raped and pillaged the riverlands.) Bitter was overpowering Brienne, and Brienne would have certantly died if Gendry didn't show up and sneak attacked Bitter via driving a spear in Bitter's back.

Brienne was then captured via the Brotherhood without Banners and became Lady Catelyn / Lady Stoneheart's captive.
