Right now I'm reading two books. I try to focus on one because if I don't do that, I will end up in a situation where I haven't read anything the whole way through. Sometimes I stop reading a particular book for a month or more and put it back on the shelf with the bookmark still in it. There are about three books like that on my shelves right now. I'll finish them. The reasons I haven't finished them? Simple: one is a two-volume religious work, one is about the Russian mafia and ultimately gets depressing when read for too long and one is written in Middle English so I don't read it fast or like to read it at one sitting (I've been reading the Canterbury Tales in Middle English for some time now, one story at a time).
Sounds sensible. Most of my pending books are also either theory or long works that are unrelated to what I should be doing.

Are you a "monogamous" reader, as it were?

For the most part. Not always, but then it usually ends up with me divorcing the first book. *NM*
