I had to go look up her name - Svetlana Alexievich. She's not at all famous and I never heard her name mentioned in any literary sources prior to the award. Of course, I haven't taken the Nobel Prizes for Literature or Peace seriously for the past 15 years due to this sort of highly politicized bullshit. Though I guess it's been like that for as long as it existed - they refused Tolstoy the honor and gave it to Sholokhov, etc., just like the Peace committee is a complete joke.
