It's been a few years since I read it, but from what I recall of Toole's book, the narrative takes on some aspects of the surreal, which some do associate as being part of the under-defined (thankfully) word of "fantasy."


You recall it wrongly. With the exception of zoophilia, which I thankfully have never witnessed, I have seen virtually every single thing in that book actually happen in New Orleans.
