The free exercise of religion does not require that a religion condone activity that it disapproves of. While the disapproval of homosexuality is really based on some 3 lines of text in the Bible, one of those lines is extremely unambiguous and so many churches consider homosexual acts a sin, and homosexual relationships "wrong".

While I disagree with their position, the free exercise of religion is a cornerstone of our freedoms under the Constitution. A church can refuse to offer any sacrament to any person for any reason whatsoever. A church can refuse to allow anyone access to any part of its sanctuary for any reason whatsoever.

Forcing churches to marry gays is inimical to everything this country was founded on. By the same logic, we could force churches to pray for the health of the President, preach only those sermons which have been approved by the government and teach only those doctrines which the government finds acceptable.

That is not religious freedom. That is tyranny.

I understand that the line of authority between church and state is sometimes skewed (in instances of bizarre religious practices especially), but that does not change the fact that the law reigns supreme over religion. At least, in what you actually can do in this world.

Separation of church and state does not indicate that churches exist outside the rule of law, only that the state does not affiliate itself with any one church. How this is so grossly misinterpreted is beyond me.

Churches cannot stone people just because they're adulterers. They cannot punish those who don't wear single-fiber cotton as the bible indicates. Church and biblical law is not supreme. Moreover, the church is a private institution subject to the laws of the land. In not allowing gays to marry, the church is discriminating. For too long, churches have hid their homophobia behind the power of doctrine and it's simply wrong.

I challenge you to quote me the line in the constitution that says the nation doesn't have a right to enforce the law when a private institution breaks it.
You must unlearn what you have learned.
