Work Visas might help, but... Isaac Send a noteboard - 16/08/2010 06:51:11 PM
(Edited)

I do like the idea of pathways for citizenship and work programs, I don't like a porous border, I'm not sure why a fence bugs people so much, it's a border, fences are actually pretty normal features of borders in other countries. We can actually do both, fences aren't expensive

So the other thing is also, are their enough jobs for these visas, who gets them, etc? There will still be plenty of people wanting to come over, or simply remain afterwards, singular magic fixes won't help, though a fence certainly will cut down one avenue, so would enforcing deportation a bit more. Also, what about a 5 year work visa where someone has a kid, quite likely, we gonna boot the whole family? Or does the magic fix just become 'get visa, go up to US, have child, remain forever'.
