This is invariably what happens in the text-only semi-anonymous environ that is a forum talk board. Here's how this conversation would probably have played out otherwise:

"Two blocks, well, here's a map for perspective"
"Yeah, but the map doesn't paint a great picture, it's a very crowded area and there are all sorts of trashy and seedy shops there"
"Yes, I'd heard that, was just talking to someone else about it actually"

Let's cut the crap, you misinterpreted my original message and were condescending in your reply, probably because you're from the area and you've heard like five-jillion people talking about the area as though it were covered in fresh white snow with everyone singing hymns, so you filled in my dialogue from memory. I, on the other hand, having been doing everything I can to stay rigidly neutral on this damn issue and resented what came off as a kneejerk response sticking me in a corner of the ring when I don't even like being in the bleachers, so it ruffled my fur and I set back an unnecessarily cutting remark where 'actually I mentioned this elsewhere' would have done just fine. And so now we're here, considering one of my major points I've been trying to get across in the thread is that some initial PR blunders resulted in everyone racing to pick sides, this is damnably ironic. I'm sorry I offended you, and that's not a sarcastic apology.
