It is an interesting corollary. And, ironically, after being convicted of the torture and murder of 3 eight year olds, based on the strength of witness testimony, not on evidence, the 18 year old was sentenced to death. He attracted some very high profile supporters like Eddie Vedder, members of the Dixie Chicks, etc. 18 years later, after witnesses had died or recanted, and there was still no real physical evidence, the three entered a "We are innocent but are pleading guilty to murder for our best interests" in a new hearing. They were then released, completely free, from jail despite the state and prosecutors adamantly proclaiming that those 3 are the only suspects and are indeed guilty.

Oh, and they were 3 white kids. Just to say that some cases get a lot of attention no matter what.
