By his own statements he either wants to end it or violate the Constitution. Joel Send a noteboard - 19/10/2011 12:13:33 AM
I believe in limited government but I also believe that there should be safety nets for the most vulnerable. I don't think we should starve senior citizens simply because they were forced into a retirement system that violated the Tenth Amendment. They paid into the system in good faith and they need to be taken care of. But we do need to work towards bring the system under the constitution. That means the system either needs to be modified or the Constitution needs to be amended. We have the lion by the tail and letting go isn't really an option but moving to state managed or personal savings accounts make sense. I know i would prefer something like that for my five year old daughter over the plan to make her work until she 70 so her grandparents can retire at 64. Kind of a piss poor deal for her.

Loss of state sovereignty has been a growing problem in this country for decades now and I support removing as many powers from the federal government as possible and retuning them to the states. The Constitution isn't the bible and founding father were not prophets of God but they got a lot of things right and avoidance of centralized power was one of those things.

Either way you statement the Perry wants to abolish SS is bullshit. If you were to argue that his position of continuing SS while believing it to be unconstitutional is irrational then you are welcome to your opinion but you are not welcome to your own facts.

Throwing back the Moynihan quote I have so often cited to you does not "prove" anything other than that I resisted the strong temptation to cite it again this time. As for whether Social Security actually IS unconstitutional, you will have to take that up with the SCOTUS who ruled that it is not.
