I can't think of a better reason than self defense Isaac Send a noteboard - 21/12/2012 10:33:26 PM
other countries have had no problem controlling the owning of guns without outright banning specific features. i would like to see us go to an australian model where "self defense" is not a valid excuse to own a lethal weapon. it's a pipe dream as of now, but maybe this can be the last mass school shooting if we're lucky enough to get tough on gun laws instead of more lax.

Theoretically, if we ever develop a weapon that can 'stun' people as effectively as others might kill them based on current tech, yes. No reasonable individual would want to personally kill another human if an equally safe option permitted. Unfortunately that is not currently the case. Other people can put you in a spot where you must risk killing them to avoid death or similar to yourself or someone else.

Also I think you're wrong about Australia, they permit self-defense too.

When guns are a big national issue, how do reporters & pundits not know facts about them? - 21/12/2012 05:33:14 PM 1911 Views

Oh I wasn't commenting on the standard of people here - 21/12/2012 11:29:36 PM 1223 Views
you're largely correct, which is why we need stronger laws on ownership not guns per se - 21/12/2012 09:39:14 PM 1179 Views

No, we should enact gun regulation the Constitution explicitly empowers. - 26/12/2012 09:02:12 PM 1146 Views
