Sure, the writer full out says "this is me talking, not God." Don't you think that God could prompt the pen holder to clarify that? That God would give that person the freedom to write their thoughts down knowing what would happen in the future? Those early church fathers were no more awsome then anyone today. The big difference between them and us is that they were creating the church when there was no church. They were working that out in their world, in their culture, with no framework to go off of.

The other major difference was that they were at the start of this whole thing. They were in the time and place that God decided was the best place to inspire them to write down words for those who would come after.

But you are correct, it is the Holy Spirit that makes the difference. Without the HS now would be a most horrible thing.
