Things were actually progressing with Vatican II, then a couple of encyclicals and back to the Catholics and the Heretics.
In truth, the hard line division between the churches exists at the top levels only. In practice, Catholics and Protestants have been worshiping and celebrating the sacraments together for decades.
It would just nice for it to get closer to being official polity, is all.
