Something from the constitution, namely the Second Amendment, I am quite happy that it takes 60 votes for it to pass the Senate. Definitely not normal circumstances.
certainly it would have been better to have more people on board, and there is no real reason why more should not have come on board to pass these laws. but this is not an amendment process, and under normal rules the majority decides if it passes. thanks to republican filibusters, everything requires 60 votes now, not just major legislation but cabinet appointees and pretty much everything else the senate deals with as well. the republican leadership in the senate has made no qualms about their agenda to thwart everything obama puts up, and since they don't have the votes to get their way they are abusing the rules of the senate to force inaction on everything under the sun. the will of 90% of the population should not be put in such a small number of hands.
show me where i've said it in any other context and i will be happy to withdraw the statement. as it is, i'm pretty sure it's justified in this particular case. how else do you describe the inability to act on something which is backed by 90% of the population?
or perhaps "cowardice" is the ability to look the people in the eye who have been most affected by the lack of regulations on guns and tell them that even though they are supported by 90% of the populace, their concerns take second place to your own campaign donors and lobbyists. not to mention allowing the practice of illegal gun sales to continue for no rational reason. and allowing domestic abusers the right to keep their guns and retain the ability to murder their estranged partners

if i ever run for and win a seat in the US senate, i will keep your words in mind. and if you wouldn't mind saying the same thing to our resident right wing partisan extremist views when they come up then i'll give them the respect they deserve. as it stands, the bill was already a compromise designed to reach the most senators. and my initial comment was never intended to convince anyone of anything but my own frustration at the lack of movement on even the most reasonable of regulations. the fact that you prefer not to hear it is hardly my problem.
