I agree in theory but in practice it is a lot harder random thoughts Send a noteboard - 30/09/2013 03:20:14 PM

A lot like scientific research it is almost impossible to separate the good from the bad. Some corporate support is needed to keep from losing entire industries to China like we did with the rare earth elements or even to compete with government support industries in Europe. These issues are just too complex with too many hidden agendas for even well informed layman to really know what the true intended results are mush the less what the unintended results will be.
Remember the outcry because the government was wasting taxpayer dollars to study cow farts? The public was outraged but the scientist wanted to know how much methane massive herds produces so they could determine their effect on global warming.
We keep seeing polls showing American support for Obamacare and using that as measure for if it is a good thing or bad thing but that approach ignores the simple fact that vast majority really know jack squat about the law. I know I don’t have the expertise or the knowledge to make a qualified decision on this. If it works and doesn’t cost too much it will be great, if it just expands a system that already has runaway and unsustainable cost then it will be a massive failure and potentially one of the most damaging social engineering program in decades. I really have nothing more than my basic and well founded disbelieve in the effectiveness of massive government programs to go on.
