But I think if you look that amount you are quoting is high. The 1/3 comes from a study of a limited portion of the DNA. In reality it is closer to 10-15% but that is not surprising at all. Our cells and reproduction do show similarities that imply a common ancestor. A bigger shocker would if we shared no DNA.
How society first accepted the theory really has no bearing on the validity of the theory.
