Sometimes, I think they just lead to the same outcome along a different path. And sometimes, a small shift might have made an enormous difference in the shape of things after. We'll never know. Fun to think about and postulate different theories about.

Regarding this one, I can think of many different outcomes. As you and I discussed in person, husband mine, I'm not sure the future shown in this article would have turned out as rosy as the author suggests. A return to antebellum status Europe would have returned to many of the problems they already had and it isn't as though the horrors of the Great War kept them from fighting WWII. Very interesting to ponder, though. Thank you for sharing this.

I replied on FB and I will reply here too. I enjoy thinking of different outcomes as a fun exercise. And even if WWI would still have occurred later it would have been different than it was between 1914-1918. Especially if any of the multinatonal empires had self-destructed. For instance, we know that Franz Josef I died in 1916. Would Austria-Hungary have played such an important role in any future war? Probably not since the empire might have dissolved into linguistically defined states. Hell, Austria might have finally joined with Germany once it didn't have all those non-German peoples as part of its state.
