Equating the two is ridiculous. Legolas Send a noteboard - 18/03/2010 02:13:37 PM
There is a military establishment with a serious amount of Kurdish blood on their hands, the result of a brutal military campaign much of the world is ignorant of (perhaps because American military equipment caused the bloodshed and Turkey is a "good NATO ally" ). They're not "good guys".

No, they most certainly aren't.
Then there's the AKP, which has Islamist roots, supports the theocracy in Iran and plays to base nationalist sentiment with anti-American statements and now with threats of ethnic cleansing. I don't see them as "good guys" either.

The AKP has its flaws - though I wouldn't count any of the things you just mentioned here among those - but then so does every political party. Obviously Turkey isn't quite as democratic as Western countries are, but considering the progress in that direction it has made under AKP leadership, I think they deserve to be cut a little slack. You can just take the petty but nicely simple and straightforward stance of saying "there are no good guys in Turkey" and loathing all of them, but then don't act so indignant when other people do the same regarding Russia.
