They don't exactly have much that they *can* give up. Legolas Send a noteboard - 19/03/2010 10:46:35 AM
What do you believe the Palestinians should be required to give up for peace? I keep seeing people demand Israel give into the demands of the Palestinians in order to have peace. Like elections war have consequences and Israel won they get to set the rules.

Them giving up violence forever is a nobrainer, but what else are you going to ask? More land? Then their state ceases to be viable and things will go back to violence anyway. Money, well, obviously not. The Haram al-Sharif is also a complete non-starter. There's a few things you could ask from the Arabic countries that supposedly support Palestine - complete normalisation of relations with Israel, perhaps even an acknowledgement of the harsh treatment of the Jews back in the fifties - but as far as the Palestinians themselves go, they simply don't have much to negotiate with. So yes, Israel has to make far larger concessions in any realistic peace deal, because they can afford to - because they have been the winners all along, got plenty of land that wasn't theirs over the past half century.
