If you're looking at shades of grey, you're not looking hard enough.

More seriously, Dahl and Rowling do an excellent job of showing that people are complicated, but I'm not at all sure that they are anything but steadfast in their concepts of right and wrong. Regardless of whatever sympathy we may have for Tom Riddle, he did bad things. Same with Snape and Malfoy and Dumbledore (and Harry and Ron at times).

"We feel safe when we read what we recognise, what does not challenge our way of thinking.... a steady acceptance of pre-arranged patterns leads to the inability to question what we are told."

I think it's more because people are rejecting facile black-and-white depictions of the world. - 26/06/2017 02:27:21 PM 782 Views
I can't help but think a children's series is the wrong venue for this sort of protest. - 26/06/2017 05:52:52 PM 760 Views
