I very distinctly remember pictures of Jesus from the Golden Children's Bible and he has blond hair and blue eyes. He clearly came from Valhalla to save the Aryan children.

All the religious art I saw as a kid featured a dark-haired Jesus & Mary. And a lot of that was old school stuff, since I was raised in the Latin Mass tradition by people who looked askance at anything relgious created after 1962. It was unlikely to have been illustrated with eye to reverse-whitewashing.
