View original postRather that ours would have to be that high to pay for all this. As the writer explains, even if we could get all health care providers to sign on for a 40% cut in their rates, which is debatable, our costs would still be higher per person than any country in Europe.
However, whether it's on the health care, the education or the infrastructure, the article does ignore the indirect gains that would result - healthier, better educated citizens with higher productivity. For instance, one of the reasons why Medicare is so unaffordable is the way people keep medical costs to a bare minimum before turning 65, then once they do reach that age, suddenly they try to get everything fixed, when it would've been so much cheaper to deal with their health issues earlier and keep them from getting out of hand. Anyway, not that those indirect gains would make the sums work, not when Sanders insists on having everything free instead of merely affordable, but they do make it all a bit less crazy.
View original postActually her platform goes farther left than Bernie's does. But neither of them will answer where the money is supposed to come from.
I remember reading her platform and noting the most crazy idea in it, which isn't even mentioned in your article: full carbon neutrality by 2030. I'd be interested in seeing a cost estimate for that one...
View original postI believe his point about infrastructure is that standard budget items will also go up so the eventual bill will be even higher.
It was listed among the specific left-wing items, not among the baseline budget deficit that would be there anyway.
Millennials seem to like Democratic Socialism. But no one will like the bill.
